Embarking our Al Andalusia southern Spain crazy adventure via road trip in 2 weeks was super exciting.
Spain has been on my list forever. A country rich in history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes, beckons travelers with its irresistible charm.
From the bustling streets of Madrid to the serene beaches of Barcelona, every corner of this Iberian gem offered us a unique experience to remember for the rest of our lives.
Barcelona: A Feast for the Senses
We started our south Spain exploration with Barcelona, Catalonia’s vibrant capital. We were completely immersed in the architectural wonders of Antoni Gaudí, from the whimsical Sagrada Família to the colorful Park Güell.
Strolling along the lively La Rambla, where street performers kept us entertained.
I found Barcelona a must-visit for every architecture enthusiast and an aesthetics lover.
Exploring Malaga: Where Culture Meets the Mediterranean
Located on the stunning Costa del Sol, with its blend of ancient landmarks, modern attractions, and sun-kissed beaches, Malaga offered us a diverse array of experiences to enjoy.
We chose Benalmádena as our base location from which we drove around Al Andalusia for the rest of the trip.
As art enthusiasts, we were delighted by Malaga’s impressive array of museums, including the Picasso Museum, dedicated to the city’s most famous native son, Pablo Picasso: showcasing works spanning his entire career, housed in a beautifully restored 16th-century palace.
It felt like stepping back in time as we wandered through Malaga’s historic center, where Moorish architecture, Roman ruins, and Renaissance cathedrals coexist harmoniously.
Granada: Embracing the Spirit of España
By this time, we were in the middle of our journey and the best way to relax was to go for an arab bath. We tried Hammam Al Andalus in Granada & 1.5 hrs made our body re-energized to continue the further journey.
We were completely lost in the intricate carvings of the Nasrid Palaces and wandering around the fragrant gardens of the Generalife.
Later in the day, watching authentic flamenco dancers expressing their deepest emotions through body movements melted my heart.
Ronda: Most Picturesque Town
With its dramatic cliffside setting and old-world charm, Ronda is simply beautiful.
Perched atop the 100-meter-deep El Tajo gorge, Ronda is split between the newer town on one side and the ancient Moorish old town, La Ciudad, on the other. Connecting the two is the impressive 18th-century Puente Nuevo bridge, offering dizzying views of the gorge below.
Mijas: Quintessential Andalusian Village Experience
Nestled in the mountains of southern Spain’s Costa del Sol lies the charming pueblo blanco (white village) of Mijas.
With its cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, wandering through Mijas is like stepping back in time, as donkeys still meander through the narrow lanes just as they did when the village was founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC.
While Mijas has plenty of traditional Spanish charm, it also has a cosmopolitan side, with an international community and thriving art scene.
Seville: The Essence of Andalusia
Journey south to Seville, the soul of Andalusia, where flamenco echoes through the streets and orange blossoms scent the air.
We explored the majestic Alcázar Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its stunning Moorish architecture. And wandered through the picturesque streets of the Santa Cruz neighborhood, soaking in the city’s romantic ambiance.
Madrid: Where History Meets Modernity
We ended our Spanish adventure in the heart of the country, Madrid. This cosmopolitan capital seamlessly blends its rich history with modernity, evident in its iconic landmarks like the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor. We lost ourselves in the enchanting streets of the historic center, where every corner reveals centuries of fascinating stories.
